Monday Nights
Monday is dedicated to the Medieval martial arts from Germany. Our focus is mainly on two handed sword (longsword), sword and buckler, sword alone, and unarmed. The major references we use are:
- Sigmund Ringeck: MS Dresd. C 487
- Hans Talhoffer's various MS
- The Codex Wallerstein
- MS 3227a, or sometimes referred to as the Doebringer treatise
- Joachim Meyer
- Selected parts of Paulus Hector Mair (the parts translated into English)
- Numerous other German sources from the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance
Tuesday Nights
Tuesday is dedicated to the Renaissance martial arts. Our focus is mainly on the rapier and the (not so) short sword. The major references we use are:
- Salvatore Fabris
- Nicoletto Giganti
- Ridulfo Capo Ferro
- Girard Thibault
- George Silver
The English, Italian and Spanish styles are taught separately.
Wednesday Nights
Wednesday is dedicated to the Enlightenment martial arts. Our focus is mainly on Scottish broad and backsword, military sabre and naval cutlass. Due to the huge wealth of material offered from this period sources are not listed. Please note small sword will added later in the year.
Thursday Nights
Thursday is an additional German night. See Monday night for a list of some of the resources used.
Sunday Mornings
Sunday morning is dedicated to the court or small sword. The major reason is The School of Fencing by Domenica Angelo.
What classes are best for you?
Most of that will come down to your personal preferences. We do not expect you to undertake all five classes per week, though you may. The structure gives you the opportunity to test out what works best for you. Are you the type of person who wants to learn only self defence? If so, then Thursday or perhaps Monday nights suit you best. If you like the idea of romantic sword play, you will probably investigate either Tuesday or Wednesday nights. However each night will give interesting insights into the European mind-set of fighting of yesteryear. For those truly wanting a challenge of mind and body, try doing the lot ;)

On the topic of children
Currently there are no child-specific classes. However the question is regularly raised; the intention is to run children's sessions. Classes will commence when there is enough participants. If you would like your child or children to attend, please contact us. These classes are for 6 - 12 year olds.
If you would like your children to attend classes now, they will need to be in the general classes.
